Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announce that they have acquired forward Andy Brandt from the Gwinnett Gladiators.

The acquisition of Brandt completes the trade of goaltender Jonathan Boutin to the South Carolina Stingrays on January 27, 2009. The Salmon Kings obtained the Gwinnett future considerations from South Carolina for Boutin. The Stingrays had previously attained the future considerations from the Gladiators in a trade for goaltender Josh Johnson.

“Andy is a great acquisition for our team,” General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. “He is an aggressive player who finishes checks and can put the puck in the net.”

Brandt is entering his third professional season in 2009-10. He has spent his entire professional career with Gwinnett.

In 2008-09 the Wausau, Wisconsin native played in all 72 games for Gwinnett and notched 31 points (10g-21a) while earning 34 minutes in penalties. During the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs he scored one goal in five games.

For his professional career the 6-1, 190lb Brandt has played in 148 professional games scoring 28 goals and adding 47 assists. He has also earned 67 minutes in penalties. He has one goal in 14 career Kelly Cup Playoff games.

Prior to turning professional the 26-year-old played four seasons with the University of Wisconsin Badgers. During his four year career in Wisconsin he played in 130 games adding 14 points (5g-9a). He was a member of Wisconsin’s 2006 National Championship team.

The Premier ‘AA’ Hockey League drew over 3 million fans for the 16th year in a row and reached the 3 million mark in the least amount of games since 2005-06. The ECHL averaged 4,258 per game in 2008-09 which is the highest average since 2005-06 and the second-highest average in the last eight seasons. The league has averaged over 4,000 fans for the last five years and 17 times in the last 19 years.

Beginning in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier ‘AA’ Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 24 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Nineteen of the 24 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The ECHL is the third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League.

The conference and division alignments and the format for the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined and approved at a later date by the ECHL Board of Governors.
